a 270 does have a bit of kick and can make you sore after an afternoon of shooting but that isn't often.

I bought a rem 710 for my son (at that time 6-7yrs old) to give to him in a couple yrs. the mistake was getting the lite weight 710 plane jane model with no recoil pad. after 30rds at the end of the day testing distances and getting it zeroed, my should had thrown in the towel.
