I had a widow lady we hunt on get ahold of me a couple days ago saying she’d sure appreciate it if we could come make a hunt. She said the hogs were really rooting up her pasture. So being deer season, I called all the land owners to get the ok. I knew one guy and his family had feeders going and sure enough he said if they got over there it was fine but to avoid it if at all possible. Well, as luck would have it, that’s exactly where the dogs wanted to go. There wasn’t a hog on the two places we strayed on and we had to tone them back. We loaded up and went to another spot. Cast dogs about 10am, it was nice and cool. We got into hogs and had a split bay right off. It really wasn’t a bay but some dogs had a shoat stretched one way and my Boyd pup was caught on another one with Deputy Dawgs Ranger dog. The dogs got gone (pup included and only his second hunt), and put up bayed at about .5 from us. It was a nice sounder of about 30 hogs give or take. The pup never bobbled. That rally didn’t phase him and I was happy about that. We caught two right there. Deputy Dawg stuck the one the bay dogs had I and then came over and helped me tie the sow, 180-200#. The dogs were already bayed again at 365 but caught that little boar in the creek. Being that it’s been over a month since I’d been, the rally was real sweet music and sure enjoyed watching them sing.

Good hunt T-dog…as usual your dogs performed well and sounds like that pup is on its way to making a good hog dog…

Thanks guys. I’m pretty excited to see how he does. His momma is a littermate sister to my Outlaw dog and his daddy is a littermate to my Raylynn gyp who is Outlaw’s mother, so uncle to niece mating. I gave this pups littermate brother to another hunting buddy.  He said that pup found 2 hogs on his second hunt and 1 his third. I’m hoping they do well.

Nice hunt T dog. Baying sounders is my favorite part of hog dogging. It’s really fun to see how dogs react to it the first time or two. The intensity really ramps up! I feel like they are great training opportunities for young dogs. They learn how to relay & provide fresh “tracks” for pups to take. I’ve had alot of prospects bay their first solo hog off a scattered sounder. It seems to expand their range a little as well. I’ve also seen it overstimulate their nose & cause them to struggle. Sounds like Boyd is made of the right stuff. Look forward to following your posts to enjoy his development.

Thanks y’all. Deer season seems longer and longer every year old man. I think it has a lot to do with a loss of places I can hunt during deer season. Places I use to be able to hunt now have deer hunters or sold.
