i am new on this site but just wanted to say this...i was hunting in dayton,tx and had a ybmc stolen.one of the guys that were with this group called me and told me who stole my dog and so i went to liberty county and filed charges but after having a change of heart this person deciced they didnt want to get involved and didnt want to take the time to put a dog thief behind bars, folks this is why there is so much of this going on.nobody wants to stand up and get involved so the thieves can do as they want with no consequences.....the people involved know who they are so thats what they have to deal with          txhunter

"after having a change of heart this person deciced they didnt want to get involved and didnt want to take the time to put a dog thief behind bars"

Who is "this person" of whom you speak? The Sheriff, the DA, or your informant?

If it was the Sheriff, go talk to the DA. If it was the DA, go talk to the county commissioner or some other elected officials. There are plenty of lazy people in the system and each of them answer to someone. Find out who their boss is and push it.

If the "this person" you are referring to is the informant, you will probably be SOL trying to get a warrant without corroboration for probable cause for the authorities to recover your dog.

Does the dog have any identifying marks?

If the guy had a change of heart and didnt want to get involved I am afraid that I would go to him and get his mind right for him.He would have 2 choices take a beatdown for his thieving buddy or just go get my dog and I would be happy.I have never had a hog dog ripped off but had many deerhounds stolen.Hope you get your dog back, good luck and let us know how this turns out.If you need some help I live in Vidor and can be in Dayton in an hour and 15 minutes,I used to work at the Hightower unit over there so I know the area well.PM me if you need some extra muscle,I would be more than happy to help. i dont think you can name a thief on this boardunless they have been convicted, but you can send pm's. id like to know his name and who he hunts with.

also, shouldnt that collar being at the thieves house be enough to put him in jail?

fyi. if you are a TDHA member TDHA puts up $1000 reward for stolen dogs. people that are thieves have sorry friends, they will probably sell them out for the reward $$$

TDHA Crime Stoppers Fund.....he is how it works.

Crime Stoppers Fund

The Texas Dog Hunters Association's Crime Stoppers Fund will pay a reward up to $500 for information that leads to the conviction of a person(s) who has committed a criminal act according to the laws of the State of Texas against or affecting a dog owned by a member of Texas Dog Hunters Association (TDHA.)

To qualify for this assistance you must be a member in good standing for at least 24 hours prior to the act against the dog(s). For the purpose of this fund, in good standing means the TDHA member has paid membership dues, those dues have been received by TDHA and the member is recognized by TDHA.

The Board of Directors of TDHA will consider each case individually and determine the amount to be paid and the time period in which the reward may be claimed by the affected member.

The reward CAN be paid to a non-TDHA member.

UP TO $1000, depending upon the facts of the case and its potential benefit to our dog hunting community as a whole.

At least that is how I understood it.....

That is awful, and unfortunately I have felt your pain.  I had a dog, that I truly enjoyed, fell in love with (if you can call it that) from first site, that I got from Mr. Doug Mason.  His name was Ice and he was turning out to be a pretty dang good dog.  He ended up stolen from me, and the thieves arrested, rather than returning the dog, somebody (couldnt prove who) beat him on the head and left him for dead on the side of a county road several days after.

I took him to the vet but he couldnt be saved,  the suspects were convicted and restitution paid, to include vet costs, but it still didn't fill the void from the loss of the dog.  I sure hope Fire is doing good where ever he is.

Good luck and hope you get it resolved better than I did.
