what in the h3ll are people doing turning caught hogs loose. read on here where folks are barrin hogs and turning sucking sows loose. i guess these folks have never tried to make a living raising cattle or hay . i like to catch big hogs too but catch them and kill them. if i told one of the men whose places i hunt/ and they are all cowmen trying to make a living despite high cost of fertilizer feed, fuel, and livig cost despite hogs tearing up thier places and having to plow them up; i would end up in a fist fight and not have any places to hunt.

Fom East Texas and further east, this has been done for many generations and is still heavily practiced today. Not much for them the tear up in the piney woods and river bottoms. Wink

Robbie I know just what you mean. But you and I have to understand that we live off the land and they play on it!!!!!!. I probable shoot more hogs riding around checking cows than most of these guys have ever caught with there dogs. But I still like to run dogs on them.

i understand about free ranging hogs. the price of hogs has almost driven this to extinction. i know a guy whose in laws still run some hogs around san jacinto county. im talking about people turning them loose just to catch them again latter on.

Hey RobbieW! I also cut & release Boars & sows because they fatten up and  grow healthier but also because I love the SPORT of Hogdoggin and part of any sport is to get that trophy. Here in Hawaii Pigs along with just about every other imported ungulate leads to degradation of our lands and erosion but so do people. Good luck on your farming!

I am a cattle rancher and work cattle for alot of ranches and we turn several loose and barr them even on my own cattle ranch!! I would rather see hogs than deer!! But I control  how I do this!!  One hint of hog sign in a field they get dog back to the woods!! Tons of hogs in my woods and no damage in my fields!! Alot is how you are brought up and the country you live in!! We remove hogs off ranches that don't want them but we try to get the owner to let us catch them alive and take them to a high fence or to a buyer!! Never had a rancher complain once we explain what we do!!! Lots of place around here ask if we will come cut and release hogs for them and bob there tails so they can shoot the barrs off the deers stands!!! Just how it works and we understand how yall do it just hope yall undertand how we do it!! Not run each others ways down!!  Oh and when we tell a rancher what we are going to do with the hog we do exactly as we said no different! Honesty goes a long way around here!!

So does several others around here!!! Sorry if it offends!! But when I started on this site it offended me to see people killing them but I am open minded and see why yall do it !!! As far as Forrest Gump Goes he is just another actor !! Acting a part!! Sorry but John Wayne was not a cowboy just an actor!! Qoute something from a old cowboy around 75 to 80 and my ears are open!!!  Wink LOL

hogs have been a part of the  landscape for 400 or more years. Brought here as a food source and still used in that same manner today. Compare them  to fire ants all you want, but it does not make much sense to me. I will comtinue to practice catch and release where allowed, and I will kill em all where required. In the meantime, I won't bitch about what other hunters choose to do with the hogs they catch. Your time might be better spent bitching about the peta types, not fellow hunters.

East Tx pineywoods, river bottoms and farmland are two different thing as long as we all are enjoying what we do and doing what fits are area and situations we should all be fine....I don't imagine that any hogs off the trinity river make there way to West tx.

Here in west Texas if we turn a hog loose we would be shot by every farmers around they are causing some folks to go dang broke.. I have a buying station and hunt with dogs myself and I dont know of one person who wants these hogs cut and turned out.. I aint knocking you for doing it by all means cause those that do turn the small ones out and recatch later keeps me buyin, but my landowners i hunt on feel way different about it.. I dont let anything go and niether do most around here just cause for every hog caught is a dollar made when there is a buying station around I bet  shipped out 100,000 head documented last year. Hey every one has there ways every man has different habitats.

I am like you chance,, we hunt several cattle ranches that the landowners want them gone or killed, and then we hunt lots of deer leases that want us to release all of em, and bob the tails so the deer hunters can have something better to eat than a nasty ol' boar or a piggy sow. barring hogs has been around these parts for a long long time and there are tons of people around here that still do it. dont imagine it will ever change. and i see no problem with yall killing them out west as for they are costing farmers and ranchers tons of money, but around here the only thing they cost is the corn in the feeders  Grin but i totally understand where yall are coming from, just hope your understand where we are to.

EVERYBODY HAS DIFFERENT WAYS THEY DO THINGS. ONE MAN MAY TIE A HOG WITH MULE TAPE, WHILE THE NEXT USES HOBBLES. SOME PEOPLE LIKE HOUNDS, AND SOME CANT STAND A HOUND. TO EACH IS OWN. IF A MAN WANTS TO CUT AND TURN A HOG LOOSE, THAT'S BETWEEN HIM AND THE LAND OWNER. THAT LIKE TELLING HIM HIS METHOD OF HUNTING IS WRONG. WHEN IN ALL ACTUALITY IT'S NOT WRONG ITS JUST DIFFERENT THAN OURS. JUST MY OPINION.
