Spoke to some Family who live outside Marion Michigan today, Told them about hog hunting down here and they said that there Local DNR officers have taken several hogs around there area this summer and have issued a shoot on sight order. They think there transplants by some local guys who moved up there with an oil drilling comapny from Texas Evil. The DNR can't prove it but that's there guess anyway, they are not sure just how many are in the area, I hope they make it I need a summer hunting area Way to go whoever you guys are LOL! angel

I remember reading a news article about a guy form TX that drove a trailer full of hogs up there and released them.  Somehow they figured out who had done it, arrested and charged him. I wonder if the hogs you are talking about have anything to do with that guy.

I have recently sent some of my hounds to a buddy in Michigan that bear hunts.  He said he had heard of some wild hogs within a 2 hour drive of his place.  He has not found them yet.  However, he has been putting them on bear.  I warned him to never say "Catch him" to those hounds, as I used them to strike, jump, bay, and CATCH hogs.  Well yesterday, he could not resist.  The 3 blueticks had a big boar bear bayed at the base of a tree.  When he got within 20 yards, the bear started charging and bluffing, only to retreat back to the base of "his" tree.  Rob could not let the opportunity pass, so he said the choice words, "Catch him".  He said they all 3 dove on.  He told me last night he would not doubt me anymore.  One of the dogs took it pretty bad from the bear, but they all hung on.  He said they will all be fine with a little R&R.  Never underestimate the heart of a big game dog.

How long have you been hog hunting.  What type of terrain do you hunt.  Sooner or later, you will find, hogs will try to run, when they realize it's their only chance to survive.   Wink

As a hunter, you just have to have dogs that don't mind playing the game.   Grin

I was kidding when I said I never seen a hog that wanted to run, thats why i put the  Cheesy , Truth is I ain't seen many here that wanted to do anything else if given the chance

Cutterbay, don't think for a second that I was downing big game hounds, not at all. what I was pointing out and laughing at was how these fellas thought they were gonna just dump some hounds out and in no time have some hogs bayed, didn't happen. Whats harder to bay, a hog that wants to run or a bear that wants to run? who knows, probably different each time out. But i will bet there have been more hogs bayed by curs and more bears bayed/treed by hounds
