I went out this morning to run my new dogs with my strike dog to do some training. I left with four dogs and came home with one. Went to a place that didn't turn up anything and then went and put out where I saw alot of sign from the hi way and got into a big bunch. My new plott/bmc struck first and he ran this hog for two miles befor he got it stopped. He seems to like to hunt alone. I shot the hog with my bow and loaded him up and went to look for my other dogs. They had their own bay going on the whole time I was trying to make it to his bay. About the time I got to him was the last I herd of the other dogs. I looked for them for three hours and a half a tank of gas to no luck. It's really strange for my strike dog not to come back cause she is short range and always finds her way back. Hopefully I'll find them tommorow. On a good note my new 10 month old found stayed with and bayed his own hog his second time in the woods like he's been doing it all along. Also I saw a MONSTER buck trying to sneek around the dogs while they were baying. It's 150 acres bow only corp land and so far I'm the only one hunting it. I hope I didn't run him off running those dogs in there.

Mr. HG I haven't ever use a tracking collar but I'm working on it. I always ran short range dogs that would come back if they couldn't stop it. But these plott cross don't seem to have any quit and I think my strike dog decided to be the same this time and it got her into trouble. I went back about an hour ago without any luck. It's gonna be hard to replace Red if I dont find her. She had her drawbacks but if there was a hog there she would find them every time. Gonna try again later after work.

I know you know this put sometimes if I leave I will put down some of my clothes or a sweaty horse blanket so when the dog tracks back he will stay. I have left dogs alot and it works great sometimes if they track a mile or 2 away I will keep hunting and leave a article down and 90 0/0 of the time they are on it or close.I'm like you west texas if it leaves my truck its collared. When you get those rangy dogs back trade one for a tracking system or sell one and buy one my dogs pay for themselves one way or another maybe even through hog sales let that be your dog fund and don't tell your wife.If you have a trailer leave it it will work also or get some dogs use the wind go out there leave them tyed get a small pig maybe it will pull those dogs just some dumb suggestions. I have even had to dart a dog to catch it one that I was feeding and he would find you a hog he just didn't want you to touch him anyway good luck.

I found two of them but Red is still missing. They were on the other side of the lake from where I turned them loose. I did leave my shirt yesterday but they weren't anywhere close to it. That has worked for me before though. Thanks for the sugestions Mr. HG I'll keep it in mind.

Man, nothing makes me more sick than to loose a dog.. GET A TRACKER!  I got my 3 dog wildlife system with 2 collars for 300 on ebay.  Saves you a world of stress Wink  Glad you found some, I'm sure the others will show up when they get hungry

Went deer hunting this morning and rechecked the place I left my shirt at. Red was right by it waiting for me. So I got all my dogs back now. Wonder what she's been doing for the last three days? She's the one in the middle.

Glad to gear they are all home.
I know when Silverton Boar Dogs lost his little bulldog for 3 days,
when he staggered up to the house, he was cut lightly and fat as a tick,
so we figured he found his own hog and had him for breakfast that morning. Grin

Maybe she's been hunting for 3 days and wondering when her backup was coming. Cheesy

Went through a similar scenario with two of my dogs last winter. I was sick for a couple days till I got them back. Glad everything worked out. My tracker is worth its weight in gold. Won't put them on the ground without it. Get you one.--John
